A new researcher is starting at IVPC

Dr. Pierre-Yves Lozach, from the University of Heidelberg, has taken up his new position as Director of Research at IVPC on October 1st, 2019

Pierre-Yves Lozach joined our research unit

Pierre-Yves Lozach obtained his PhD degree in Virology at the Pasteur Institute. In 2007, he joined the lab of Ari Helenius (ETH Zurich, Switzerland), first as a Marie-Curie postdoc fellow and then as a group leader. In 2012, he was appointed as tenure-track Assistant-Professor in Canada, and in 2013, granted the CellNetworks group leader position at the University of Heidelberg. He is now joining IVPC as a Research Director from INRA-University. He has officially started in Lyon on Oct. 1st, 2019. His group, which will remain affiliate to the University Hospital Heidelberg until 2022, published a combination of 15 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, book chapters, news, and symposiums during the last five years. Pierre-Yves Lozach is now going to build on his international experience to pursue an exciting and dynamic scientific program in the field of vector-borne viral emerging diseases. The overall aim of the Lozach group (www.lozachlab.com) is to obtain a deep knowledge of the cell biology of viruses transmitted by insects and ticks to mammal hosts. To this end, Dr. Lozach uses high-end cellular and molecular biology techniques in combination with innovative technologies in OMICS, electron microscopy and fluorescence-based methods. The goal of his group is to obtain a detailed picture of the molecular and cellular mechanisms subverted by arboviruses to infect their mammalian host with the ultimate objective of identifying novel therapeutic targets and antiviral strategies.
